What Will It Take to Make the Copenhagen Conference a Success?

From rss.sciam.com:

The upcoming COP15 meeting in Denmark—so named because it is the 15th such international gathering of the Conference of the Parties (COP) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change—is the world's next big chance to take decisive multi-lateral action on reducing greenhouse gas emissions substantially enough to ward off cataclysmic climate change. Negotiators from all over the globe hope to come to terms on a binding agreement regarding emissions reductions that both developed and developing nations can agree to. The stakes are high: This conference represents the final step in negotiations years in the making—and the results could chart a course toward success or failure in human efforts to control the carbon beast we set free in ...

COP15 Climate Talks in Disarray – Again

From www.globalwarmingisreal.com:

Listen to all those global warming believers chant "Be more like Africa"… if they had their way, the whole world will be poor and living under brutal dictatorships. I wonder if the global warming believers realize that they are just tools for thuggish dictators around the world to pressure rich free democracies to be a little less so.

That's almost 4 hours worth of occupying Iraq and Afghanistan - I hope diverting that $17 million/year doesn't slow down the March of Democracy in the Middle East in any way.

Jul 21, science teacher

From www.global-greenhouse-warming.com:

In the midwest alone, I have noticed that the seasons seem to be blending more each year. This year we have not had much of a summer when there should have been hotter temperatures instead we have had more spring like weather. Something is going on weather it is global warming or something approaching our planet, something is definitely going on here. There have been increases in volcanic activity, storms, floods, etc. Why isn't our government doing something about this?

Tuvalu's Ian Fry Gives Impassioned Plea at COP15 for the Fate of His Country

From www.globalwarmingisreal.com:

As has been widely reported, plenary sessions where suspended last Wednesday when Tuvalu's chief negotiator Ian Fry pleaded for consideration of the "Tuvalu Protocol" calling for strengthening of the Kyoto Protocol and sharply limiting greenhouse gas emissions in hopes of containing global temperature rise to within 1.5 degrees Celsius – far more than developed nations are proposing.

The Science of Climate Negotiations

From rss.sciam.com:

COPENHAGEN—One thing is clear under this city's low, leaden skies: a ton of carbon dioxide emitted in India is the same as a ton of carbon dioxide emitted in the U.S. And while some notable contrarians are present here at the United Nations' climate summit, their presence is going largely unnoticed because representatives from most countries accept the basic physics of a molecule of carbon dioxide trapping heat in the atmosphere. But what is less clear is how the various negotiators from 193 countries are incorporating new developments in the scientific understanding of climate change and its progress, particularly as various draft texts of what an agreement might look like circulate through the crowded halls of the Bella Center. ...

Aug 7, Flue Gas Condensers

From www.global-greenhouse-warming.com:

Comparison: Natural gas is delivered to site via a pipeline and not by diesel truck or train. When combusted there is no ash to deal with, or spent rods to store. The emissions from natural gas combustion compared to coal are approximately 1/2. The maintenance between coal or oil combustion compared to natural gas is like comparing night and day. Estimations of global natural gas reserves range between 50 - 100 years, so there no immediate concern about running out of this fuel source. But there are still greenhouse gas emissions associated with the combustion of natural gas. As with every combustion appliance there is a chimney. What goes up these chimneys is the waste heat that did ...

Interior Secretary Outlines How to Use North American Continent to Combat Climate Change

From rss.sciam.com:

COPENHAGEN—U.S. forests and soils store some 90 billion metric tons of carbon, or 50 years worth of present U.S. emissions from fossil fuels, according to a new study from the U.S. Geological Survey. As negotiators here at the United Nations' climate summit continue to struggle to draft a global agreement to cut greenhouse gas emissions—including efforts to reduce deforestation and protect natural sinks—the U.S. Department of Interior is transforming the business of public lands and waters to help combat climate change. First and foremost, on December 10, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar attempted to reassure the world that the U.S. is once again actively engaged in the global effort to combat climate change. "The U.S.A. understands the danger ...

Global warming, loyalty oaths, and Climategate's smoking gun

From www.examiner.com:

However we have a winner in the Dim Bulb category for stupidest reaction to Climategate, the UK's Met Office. One week after doing an absolutely brilliant thing--announcing they will essentially rebuild the temperature records to eliminate doubt that the Climategate scientists had corrupted or lost it, they throw away all their brownie points by circulating a petition supporting the global warming position and asking scientists to sign it.

COP15 News Update: Rich & Poor Nations Seek a Deal

From www.inhabitat.com:

The COP15 climate conferences kicked off this week and as predicted, several key points dominated the focus of the media’s coverage. The plan of attack for how rich countries and poorer countries will clean up their acts collaboratively took center stage, and the world continued to turn their gaze towards President Obama to see how low the U.S. can go (or high, in terms of emissions cuts percentages) in this global warming limbo to rehabilitate our country. Underlining the urgency of these talks, the New York Times has just announced that the past decade has been the warmest on modern record. Read on for our full update!
